There is a new surge of custom bra fitting spanning from East coast to West coast. And quite the demand for such because for a long time many women have been far too uncomfortable in the type of lingerie they purchase, especially their bras. Most of the discomfort stems from lack of education and intention of the need for bra wearing in the first place. In the American culture especially, comfort in wearing a bra has created the rift between proper support and function. While it is important to feel right in what you are wearing “…we should remember that the purpose of the brazier is to support the breast tissue thus creating an ideal shape for each individual body type"says Stacy Chen, manager of La Pêche in Torrance, California. No other company has mastered this art of bra wearing as the founders of La Pêche have. A Japanese-owned and operated boutique in Torrance, California with an American and Chinese manager on hand to prevent any language barriers, has brought custom bra fitting to a whole new level. And one which has been sustained through time. Their flagship store opened in Osaka, Japan over twenty years ago. Akimi Kureshiro who was apart of the inception in Japan brought Ripplu, the sister store to Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue twelve years ago. What began as a largely primary clientele of Japanese (almost 90% at the time), it is now a destination of many Americans, Chinese and Europeans.

This success in New York City inspired the company to open a shop in California two years ago. Hikaru Takahashi, overseer and frequent traveler from New York City to Japan and back for merchandise and quality control, sees La Pêche as “…A once niche market that is soaring because of women’s desire to naturally enhance their body and shape—it is the alternative to enhancement surgery". Ms. Takahashi has been apart of this cutting edge fashion necessity for over ten years and has witnessed first hand the mass information with regards to women's lingerie wholesalers and retailers. She along with the main founding partners have created a revolutionary approach to bra fittings and have seen unsurpassed success and joy with helping women find their perfect style and size for their own body type.

Upon visiting La Pêche, everyone is greeted in traditional Japanese verbage, ila-shiee-mesey, which means welcome. The space itself is feng shui-ed by feng shui expert Dina of Feng Shui Tao (www.fengshuitao.com) for an overall peaceful atmosphere. The client is then asked to fill out a chart which they keep on file for reference as well as birthday discounts and monthly mailing reminders to revisit to ensure proper bra care. Each client is measured accurately though the expert staff then shown and taught the philosophy of La Pêche. Clients try on the selected bra and are instructed how to wear these stunning creations of fabric and style. If need be, free custom alterations are done on-site while clients sip green tea and wait for their specialized bra to be suited for them.

There is a large selection of their own created and made in Japan brands as well as the classics of Prima Donna, Wacoal, and Aubade which offers clients an array of beautiful and masterfully made options. Classic music, gentleness, and attentive customer service encompasses the space making the whole experience one to remember and without a doubt enticing enough to return again and again.
